Since the early 2000s, Villages have emerged as an innovative model to help people remain in their homes and to connect with their communities throughout later life. Villages have been defined as self-governing, grassroots, community-based organizations that coordinate access to a variety of supportive services to promote aging in place, social integration, health, and well-being. This report provides a national “snapshot” of the implementation of Villages by presenting data from a survey of Villages in the United States (U.S.) conducted from January through June of 2012. The report describes Villages at the national level in terms of their organizational characteristics; finances; community setting and membership characteristics; services; and organizational governance and collaborations. // (2012)
