This report provides information on California caregivers based on the California Statewide Survey of Caregivers. This statewide telephone survey has been used to determine (1) the prevalence and characteristics of family caregiving (e.g. types of services/tasks undertaken, characteristics of recipients, type of disability, etc.); (2) current use of support services, and satisfaction with those services used; (3) reasons for non-use of support services and potential use of those services; and (4) factors which contribute to caregiver stress. It is hoped that this report will further provide the California Department of Aging and local Area Agencies on Aging with a strong foundation for developing service programs to assist family members in maintaining their caregiver roles for their older family members who are ill or who have disabilities. // (2003)
