What We Do
Within aging research, CASAS stands out as the sole academic research center in the United States explicitly dedicated to studying aging services. As part of the School of Social Welfare, CASAS leads with social justice and collaboration in all our research, education, and policy endeavors. Our work illuminates effective approaches, shares knowledge, and provides practical insights for creating more equitable aging services, programs, and policies.
How We Work
The Center also acts as a collaborative partner, resource, and hub for extensive aging studies, projects, and communities locally and internationally. From hosting large-scale conferences to providing research support for national and statewide initiatives, CASAS stands at the forefront of aging services research, paving the way for a better future for all older adults and their caregivers.

Our Mission
Improve services for older adults and their care partners through a multifaceted approach, including research, collaboration, and education
Our Funding
CASAS is grateful for the generous support of the Eugene and Rose Kleiner Family Foundation, which established funding for CASAS that allows us to pursue our mission of improving the lives of older adults. CASAS also receives project-specific funding from local, state, and national philanthropic foundations, government agencies, and industry partners.

Our History
The Center was established in 1996 at the School of Social Welfare at UC Berkeley with support from Rose and Eugene Kleiner. For 30 years, the Center has conducted cutting-edge research, trained dozens of young social workers and scholars, developed statewide training partnerships, and served as a model for a $60 million initiative to strengthen social work training nationwide.
